Steven Odom, 13, is shot and killed.

October 4, 2007

The son of two ministers, he is shot in a case of mistaken identity while returning just before his 8 p.m. curfew to his home on Evans Street. The next day, while visiting Odom’s class at the Timilty Middle School, Mayor Tom Menino calls it “one of the toughest mornings I’ve spent as mayor.” Odom’s alleged killer is an 18-year-old, who is himself killed in an unrelated shooting ten days later. A park is named for Odom in 2014.*
